The first cannibalistic monstrosities arose in the first few months of 2028. They heralded the beginning of the end. Quickly their infection spread and brought humanity to it's knees.
Meadeno-2 the devastating variant of its parent virus Meadeno-1 clawed it's ways from nature itself as it malformed into a prion transmissible from animals to humans.
Humanities Viral Defense Organization, was founded early in 2026, when a new strain of Meningitis arose. The worlds governments put forth their best doctors, virologists and scientists to found the HVDO to serve as a bulwark against global pandemics. By mid 2027 they had devised a vaccine to combat the new virus, dubbed Meadeno-1.
Now that civilization as we know it has collapsed, there are pockets of humanity across the world. Militant survivors congregating in settlements where goods, materials, and supplies are traded. A place where the last glimmering lights exist within a sea of gnawing and consuming shadows.
